Equalities

Equalities

Hull CAB is committed to developing positive policies to promote equality
of opportunity in employment and prohibiting unlawful or unfair discrimination
on the grounds of an employee’s gender, disability, marital status, religious belief, colour, and national or ethnic origin, sexual identity, age and trade union membership.

We promote equality and fairness and value diversity.

We have a team of workers who form the Equalities group who meet
regularly to ensure our organisation is working to the very highest standards on equality issues.

The groups remit is to review issues relating to equalities throughout the bureau both in service delivery and staffing and oversee the carrying out
of the annual audit and production of the annual equalities action plan.
To prioritise the bureau’s response to service delivery issues relating to equalities.

In practice the Bureau strives to treat all staff, volunteers and clients fairly. Equality and fairness do not mean providing the same service in the same way to everybody. It means recognising that people are different and so
have different needs.

It is everyone’s duty to recognise
and then respond to these needs.

Through advising people of their rights and responsibilities and through
social policy work Hull Citizens Advice Bureau aims to encourage and
support the development of a society in which:

Ø      A person’s ability to achieve their potential is not limited by prejudice
        and discrimination;

Ø      There is respect for and protection of each individual’s human rights;

Ø      There is respect for the dignity and worth of each individual;

Ø      Each individual has an equal opportunity to participate in society; and          there is mutual respect between groups based on understanding and          valuing of diversity and on shared respect for equality and
         human rights.

We work to ensure that
everyone who accesses the Bureau feels
they are in a safe and welcoming environment.
